A youth, who had brought his injured father to the Kapurthala Civil Hospital for treatment, was killed by miscreants outside the hospital’s emergency wing on Thursday night. The same assailants had attacked youth’s father on Thursday. Later, they killed the youth on Thursday night.

Two parties had been indulging in fights for the past one week at Talwandi Mehma village. But these were not reported to the police. The first complaint was lodged when Rajkumar was attacked on Thursday evening. After that, the police had no information about when the injured man was taken to the Civil Hospital in Kapurthala. — Harpreet Singh, DSP, Kapurthala

Talwandi Mehma village sarpanch Jaswant Singh along with 16 attackers — some of whom had previous criminal record — were booked in two different cases registered at the Sadar and Urban Estate police stations in Kapurthala yesterday in this connection.

The deceased was identified as Jaspreet Gill and his injured father as Rajkumar. While Rajkumar was attacked during a clash at the Talwandi Mehma village on Thursday evening, his son Jaspreet was allegedly murdered by the same men at night outside the Kapurthala Civil Hospital.

The Talwandi Mehma village sarpanch was arrested by the police. The remaining suspects are absconding.

Harpreet Singh, DSP, Kapurthala, said the same eight suspects along with some other men carried out both the attacks regarding which two FIRs had been registered.

In the Civil Hospital murder case, an FIR has been registered against 16 suspects under Sections 302, 427, 148, 149 and 120 B of the IPC at the Urban Estate police station. The accused sarpanch was named in both the cases.

In Talwandi Mehma village clash, an FIR had been registered at the Sadar police station under Sections 333, 506, 342 and 34 of the IPC against eight suspects that included sarpanch, Nannu, Vicky, Luhara, Kalu, Bobby, Sandeep and Gallu.

In his complaint to the police, Vijay Kumar, brother of deceased, stated that on Thursday evening, a fight broke out between Rajkumar and some village residents. The suspects, were identified as Saurav and Raman, sons of Subhash, alias Gosha; Karnail, Sandeep and Gallu Baniya, all residents of Talwandi Mehma village.

The men attacked Rajkumar with sharp weapons leaving him injured. Rajkumar’s son Jaspreet Gill, along with a friend Ajay Kumar, took him to the Civil Hospital in a Swift car (bearing registration No. PB08-DD-4309).

Vijay alleged that around 10 pm on Thursday night, the same assailants along with 10 more men, attacked Jaspreet. They damaged the Swift car parked outside the hospital emergency. They dragged Jaspreet out of the car and brutally attacked him with sharp weapons on his head and body.

When nearby people raised an alarm, the assailants fled from the spot. Jaspreet was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. The police said some of the suspects had cases registered against them. Four suspects were booked for the murder of the CIA staff cop one year ago. They had come out of jail on bail recently.

DSP Harpreet Singh said the two parties had been indulging in fights or little conflicts at the village for the past one week. But these had not been reported to the police. The first complaint was lodged when Rajkumar was attacked on Thursday evening. After that, the police had no information about when the injured man was taken to the Civil Hospital, the DSP said.
