Youth shot, another injured at Alipur village, 10 booked

Around 12 youths attacked and killed a youth and shot and injured another at Alipur village in Garhshankar last night. The police have registered a case against 10 youths.

In a statement given to the police, Nitish Kumar of Chanakoui village in Balachaur said his brother Nitin Kumar had returned home at 8 pm with his friend Shammi Kapoor, alias Deepa.

After this, Nitin received a call from Raj Kumar, a resident of ward number seven, Balachaur. He said Shammi did not have any vehicle and so he would have to be dropped at Alipur village. After this, he along with his brother Nitin reached Garle Bet village on a motorcycle, where a birthday party was to be held. Raj Kumar also reached there on his bike.

After the party when all of them went to drop Shammi to his village, they saw many youths gathered near the village ground carrying sharp-edged weapons. They stopped them and started arguing with Shammi. They dragged him to the ground and started beating him up. Nitin intervened to rescue him. In the melee, Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi Dhesi, of Alipur fired at Shammi and the bullet hit his arm.

Some youths attacked Nitin with daggers. Jaggu of Sikanderpur, Jai of Nawanshahr, Sukhdev Singh of Bhajjalan and Binda of Hayatpur Rudki attacked him with knives and other weapons.

Nitish said he left his motorcycle and fled to save his life. He and Raj Kumar later admitted Nitin in a serious condition to Raja Hospital, Nawanshahr, but Nitin died during treatment. Shammi was admitted to the Civil Hospital, but the doctors referred him to the Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur.

SHO Baljinder Singh said a case has been registered against the 10 accused.

Two accused arrested

Police have arrested two youths on the charges of killing a youth at Alipur village, while eight others are still absconding. Police were conducting raids to arrest them. Meanwhile, police got the post-mortem examination of the deceased conducted and handed over the body to the family. Later, in the day Nitin cremated at his Chankoi village, Balachaur. Shammi Kapoor is undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital, Hoshiarpur. SHO Baljinder Singh Malli said they had arrested Neeraj Kumar and Saila Khurd, residents of Pala village.
