J&K MeT dept issues warning of flashfloods, landslides till July 9

The Meteorological department on Sunday issued a warning regarding possible flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas of Jammu and Kashmir till July 9.

The department has also issued warning that the water level in rivers and streams might increase, urging the people to stay cautious.

“Flash floods at few vulnerable places with landslides/mudslides and shooting stones during July 6-9. Rise in water level in rivers/streams/local nalas and water logging in few low lying areas,” the Meteorological centre at Srinagar stated.

Many mountainous areas, especially in Jammu division, face flash floods and landslides during the monsoon season that also causes widespread destruction of life and property. Districts like Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Poonch and Udhampur have already issued advisories to the residents to be on alert during the rainy season.

The Met centre at Srinagar has also advised farmers to suspend farm operations during July 6-9.

It informed that there was significant rainfall during past 24 hours. Jammu received 93.2 mm rainfall, Katra 85.8 mm, Rajouri 64.5 mm and Udhampur 38 mm rainfall during the past 24 hours.

The department has stated that there will be intermittent spell of rainfall from July 6-9. “Intense showers/heavy rain expected at few places of Jammu division during late night and early morning,” the weather advisory stated.
