What was your first thought about Chhatrasal?

As an actor, my first instinct was good. I got to play a character who is 24 years old and during the show it was extended to 82 years. Chhatrasal was not just a warrior, he had a spiritual side too and his mentor was Chatrapati Sivaji. He was one of the initiators of widow remarriage too. Various aspects of Chhatrasal attracted me towards this series.

What kind of preparatory work went in for this role?

The makers of the show are from the Pranami Community. King Chhatrasal also belonged to them. So, the content of the show is very strong and authentic. And then came the physical preparation. I had to learn sword-fighting and horse-riding. I also got a hairline fracture during shooting and had to work with a detachable plaster.

Were you fond of history during your growing up days?

In school, I was a geek and a topper too!

You have shared screen space with Ashutosh Rana in the series. How was your experience of working with him?

The first time we met was with our costumes on! I feel after Amrish Puri, Ashutosh Rana has the greatest impact on the silver screen. I feel it’s my great privilege to share screen with him. The amount of knowledge he has for any historical character is immense. My mother also congratulated me the other day as people were taking our names together for the show.

You have been a part of some great films, short films and now webseries too. Which medium has been your favourite and why?

I have always seen the camera and not differentiated between the mediums. I look at the camera the same way, irrespective of whether it is a film, television show or web series. All the mediums will coexist. But yes, at this point of time OTT platforms are offering me meatier roles.

How content you are with your career as of now?

I hope I am never content in my career! The urge of wanting more and giving more should always be there.

How have you utilised your time during the lockdown?

I went to my parent’s home in Faridabad and spent a lot of quality time with them. I have also started learning Tamil!

What is the mantra of your life?

Keep your head down, concentrate and focus on your work.
