JK Lakshmipat University, Jaipur’s Institute of Design is all set to offer an Integrated Communication Design programme at the under-graduate level from August this year. The curriculum has been developed by Industry stalwarts keeping in mind the contemporary and current needs in the design sector so that they can produce graduates who are ready and relevant for tomorrow’s needs.

The programme will predominantly follow the ‘learning by doing’ routine as the project-based learning helps in preparing the students for a career that will be both inspiring and invigorating. Students will be exposed to all media and related software. Students will work on design assignments that will define the nature of their career options besides learning to work on communication projects that are human-centric.

They can also apply the principles of Design Thinking in solving the communication problems for the creative industries like advertising, print, web, film and video, new media, tech start-ups as well as designing for the social concerns like health and education of masses. The discipline at JKLU will include a number of design practices, including graphic design, web design, information design, information architecture, advertising and branding, way finding, social communication, and motion graphics.

“The nature of communication design has changed significantly in the information economy. Content production has become primarily digital. The internet has given the power of creating content to one and all and consuming content has become cursory and transient. From analog print magazines to digitally enhanced videos, communication designers need to negotiate different domains. They need to become strategic thinkers, techno-mavericks and uber-creative professionals”, said Prof A Balasubramaniam JK Lakshmipat University, Jaipur.

On the successful completion of the programme, students would have acquired the competencies to find placements with leading graphic design firms, Tech firms, Film & Video studios, Print studios, Start-ups among others. They can also have their career prospects in the area of branding, publication, communication design and design for digital medium. They would also find opportunities in the social sectors, NGOs and the government projects besides starting their own design enterprise and can be an entrepreneur.
