Border Roads Organisation, popularly known as BRO, is a civil engineering institution responsible for providing civil (construction) engineering cover to the Armed Forces of India, during war and peace.

Borders area roads are constructed and maintained by BRO, which is a Government of India undertaking. These roads improve security by ensuring fast and smooth movement of troops and ammunition in terrains that can be treacherous.

Officers from the Border Roads Engineering Service (BRES) and personnel from the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) form the parent cadre of the Border Roads Organisation. It is also staffed by officers and troops drawn from the Indian Army’s Corps of Engineers on extra regimental employment (on deputation).

Currently, the organisation maintains operations in 21 states, one UT (Andaman and Nicobar Islands), and neighboring countries such as Afghanistan, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka.

Role of BRO

In Peace: Develop and maintain the operational road infrastructure of general staff in the border areas.

Contribute to the socio-economic development of the border states.

In War: To develop and maintain roads to keep Line of Control through in original sectors and re-deployed sectors.

To execute additional tasks as laid down by the government contributing to the war effort.

BRO Recruitment 2020

Border Roads Organisation has recently released the recruitment advertisement for Electrician, MSW & Other (Non-Technical) posts. It has planned to conduct the Electrician, MSW & Other Examination 2020 for selection of suitable aspirants for DVRMT (OG), Electrician, Veh Mechanic & Multi-Skilled Worker (Cook) posts.

As per the BRO recruitment notification 2020, there are 778 vacancies allocated for this recruitment. It invites online applications from qualified aspirants.

Selection process

Written test

Applicants need to perform well in the first 2 rounds to get selected for the written exam section. Preference should given to technical subjects while preparing for exams.

n Exam duration will be 1 hour 30 minutes (90 minutes).

n Physical efficiency test

n BRO has released the dates of the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) & Practical Test and list of candidates for whom admit card issued for appearing PET and Physical Test for Phase – I and Phase – II. Candidates can check the list of the candidates and PET Dates on official website of BRO

BRO GREF Exam Paper Pattern 2020

Examination Type: Objective Type

Subjects: Concerned Subjects and General Knowledge

Marks: 100

It is an OMR-based written test. Objective Type/ Subjective Type/ both Objective & Subjective questions will be there. The question paper will be bilingual i.e. English and Hindi.

Exam duration may vary from 1 to 3 Hours depending upon the trade.For Radio Mechanic, Welder, MSW, the exam will be of 1 to 3 hours based on GK and subject concerned. For laboratory assistant, it would be based on the subject and would carry 100 marks.

Syllabus: Driver Mechanical Transport (DVRMT)

The questions would be asked on maintenance of heavy/light vehicle,use of oils ,daily / periodic checking,tyre rotation,road signs,traffic rules,use of tools and General knowledge

for Vehicle Mechanic: For vehicle mechanic questions will be asked on 0perations of petrol/diesel engines,checking of faults,repair & maintenance on engine,fuel system,brake system, clutch system, chassis and General Knowledge

for Electrician: Questions will be asked on wiring of all types of vehicles/equipment including house wiring,charging batteries, maintenance of electrical machinery, Simple electrical calculations, Measuring and testing instruments, electrical motors and generations and General Knowledge

for MSW Cook: You would be responsible for preparation of procedure & different types of ingredients used with the quantity mentioned against each, for the preparation of dishes from different cuisines.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS FOR OFFICERS

a) Applications are shortlisted on the basis of percentage and/or qualification and will be issued call letters for appearing in test. The dates of test are decided by Commandant GREF centre, Pune. The selection is made strictly as per merit; on the basis of physical test/written examination and interview.

b) On the day of reporting for the trade test, preliminary documentation check of the original documents of candidates will be done by Board of Officers detailed by the Directorate General Border Roads.

(c) After completion of documents checking, candidates will undergo physical test i.e one mile run within 7 minutes and 30 seconds. Candidates those who have passed in physical test will only be allowed to attend the written examination

(d) Any disclosure of identity on answer sheet will render one disqualified. The syllabus for the written examination will generally in conformity with the educational standards and/or technical qualifications prescribed for the post. The question paper will be bilingual i.e. English and Hindi.

(e) Interview is be carried out by the Chief Engineer/Commandant of respective recruitment zone.

(f) The whole process will take minimum of10 days, therefore candidates are requested to plan their stay at own expense.

g) Candidates once found fit in all respects will be sent for medical fitness test at GREF Centre, Pune. The appointment of selected candidates is subject to his passing requisite medical/fitness. Test to be conducted by the Medical Officer of BRO. The appointment is subject to fitness in medical examination and production of all requisite documents only
