MBA is one of the most sought after degrees because of the excellent job prospects that it promises. The programme, however, is continuously evolving as new specialisations are being offered not only a major B-schools, but also at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Here are some novel courses spanning across various industries that students can pursue to chart an innovative career path. From tech to fisheries these courses present a cross section of options that one can explore.

Tech MBA by Dept of Management Studies, IIT Madras

 Keeping in mind the emerging talent needs of the global industries, new career opportunities in the digital economy, IIT Madras launched a first-of-its-kind tech MBA programme for its undergraduate (UG) students from all the engineering streams.

The students taking the tech MBA programme will be awarded two degrees — Engineering UG degree (BTech.) and Master’s degree in Management (MBA).

The programme will be a part of the Five-Year Inter-Disciplinary Dual Degree (IDDD) programmes and is conceptualised by the Department of Management Studies (DOMS), IIT Madras.

The Department of Management Studies will offer this foundational tech MBA courses during the third and fourth years of all UG programmes. The eligibility criteria for opting for the courses in the fifth year are CGPA, departmental aptitude test and/or personal interview.

MBA in Liberal Studies by IIM-K

 In order to prepare students for people-centric jobs to create a culture- sensitive workforce, IIM- Kozhikode launched PGP-LSM. It is a two-year full-time Master’s level programme designed to integrate and equip participants to pursue careers in managerial roles in marketing, human resource management, media, social enterprise, hospitality, healthcare or in other people facing roles. PGP-LSM is a unique offering, with the primary objective to prepare future managers by enabling them to acquire emotional, cultural, and creative intelligence.

Post Graduate Programme in Technology and Business Management (PGP-TBM) by Masters’ Union School of Business

 PGP- TBM is a uniquely designed 16-month flagship programme that is led by real practitioners, driven by live projects and grounded in technology. Along with traditional learning, the programme will also give students an opportunity to engage in networking interactions, consulting projects, tours and tech boot camps. What’s exciting about this programme is the faculty at Masters’ Union School of Business. MBA-Fisheries Enterprise Management by TNJFU

MBA-FEM was launched at Tamil Nadu Dr. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University(TNJFU), in a bid to nurture business management and entrepreneurship skills with a specialised approach to Fisheries and Aquaculture Business Enterprises.

Primary objective of MBA-FEM is to familiarise the students with all the core business management functions in detail. Also, to learn how to specifically apply the principles, concepts, theories, procedures, plans, techniques, tools, standards, regulations, good management practices, etc in the various businesses of fisheries, aquaculture and allied businesses at enterprises level. Essentially the objective of the MBA Programme is to enable the MBA graduates to become entrepreneurs in the fisheries sector as we trade up activities in other sectors.
