 A. This year has proven to be extremely challenging for everyone worldwide, both personally and professionally. Speaking of the workspace, a lot of professionals have lost their jobs or are experiencing pay-cuts.  But, if you’ve always wanted to steer into a new direction, now might be the right time.

The question arises-How can this be a time to even consider a career switch?

 Here’s why:

 1)      Times are changing

As humans, we love seeking comfort and in the workplace, comfort is in job security. Anything outside our comfort zone makes us anxious. But now, owing to the pandemic, all of us have been forced to change everything, from our working environments to our job responsibilities. Change is uncomfortable and not easy, but since we are anyways experiencing change, now more than ever, why not go in the direction you’ve always been wanting to go.

 2)      You have time

Most companies have shifted to a virtual work space shifting to Microsoft teams and Skype. Since most professionals are saving on their commute time, this is the perfect opportunity to research about the career they are passionate about. They can use this time to read and develop skills relevant to their new career path.

 3)      Introspecting

Many people have now started focusing on health and preparing a personal budget. This is a great time for self-introspection. Think about your 10-year goal and how you will reach them. Put down pen to paper, and actually try to visualise your goals. Identify and work on the skills needed, and get started.

However, having said this, it is equally important to revisit your assumptions about the new path. Have a clear vision for yourself. Remember that initially, your progress might be slow and that mistakes are inevitable. Believe in yourself and remember that career change isn’t easy, but it is possible!
