Chandigarh, August 20
Two months after she joined the Bharatiya Janta Party, Tosham MLA Kiran Choudhry on Tuesday resigned from the Vidhan Sabha.
Speaker Gian Chand Gupta confirmed that Choudhry had resigned from the Vidhan Sabha and her resignation had been accepted.

She has been announced as the BJP nominee from Haryana for the Rajya Sabha bypoll, state minister Kanwar Pal said.

Sources said she would be filing her nominations papers for the bypoll tomorrow and the BJP MLAs are likely to accompany her as a show of solidarity.
The Rajya Sabha seat had fallen vacant after Deepender Hooda was elected to the Lok Sabha from Rohtak. The byelection is being held to elect an MP for the "remaining term" of the RS seat. Hooda's term was to end in April 2026.

Choudhry and her daughter, Shruti, a former Member of Parliament from the Bhiwani-Mahendergarh seat, had quit the Congress in June this year.
