Once a homemaker, Shikha Kapila is now a designer. She runs a bridal showroom, Roopkala, with her husband. But, she is a fitness enthusiast before anything else.

With the lockdown imposed, and both sons back home, one from Mumbai and the other from London; it’s full house for her. While she struggles to find time for workout, the morning yoga routine is more or less continuing. She talks about the changes she has made to her regular routine.

What is fitness for you?

It is to be the better version of myself. Not to please anyone but to lead a healthy, medicine-free life.

Gym membership for life?

Gone are the days when I stepped out of the house to hit the gym daily. To avoid future expenses on medicines and hospital bills, one should spend it on gym membership now. There’s always a chance of missing daily exercise at home, for we women always priortise family, friends and relatives over health. But once the fee is paid, there’s no escape.

No routine is the new routine

Ever since the lockdown, there are so many factors that govern our daily schedule. Honestly speaking, life was better planned before it all happened. We have been trying to follow a routine as a family but all in vain. Now, we work around it. As a family, without any planning, we managed to have 10 moonlight yoga and meditation sessions on the terrace. Also, some perfect family lunch or dinner dates.

Yoga person

There is nothing better than yoga to stay fit and young. I enjoy my early morning sessions of yoga and other breathing exercises. I am a fan of Ashtang Yoga.

Food for thought

My mother-in-law maintains a kitchen garden that produces some fresh organic ingredients.

Anything for children

We are making the most of the lockdown. I don’t usually cook but now I am cooking the fancy meals that my children love to eat outside. I also make it a point to involve my boys in the kitchen, and it is fun.

One weakness

Chocolates. Before the lockdown, I managed to fill my pantry with chocolates. I had almost 200 of them.
