Chef Priyanka Biswas, who was among the top nine contestants in the show, Master Chef, says her journey has just begun
We hear your grandfather was famous for his cooking. What was his signature dish?
My grandfather had migrated from Bangladesh to Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. Goalondo steamer curry was his signature dish. The dish later becamevery popular among the Bengalis.
When did you discover your love for cooking?
I was fascinated bymy grandfather’s kitchen escapades. Bengali way of cooking does not require many spices.It’s all about mustard oil, green chilies, ginger, cumin and salt.
You are a dentist. Why did you take up dentistry?
Actually my father had cracked the PMT but due to the financial condition of his family, he could not pursue the course. He saw that ability in me and encouraged me. Personally, I was fascinated with the doctor’s apron.
Who has been your biggest support in life?
I owe everything to my mother. I was body-shamed because of my weight, but my mother told me not to underestimate myself. She inspired me to take up taekwondo. Now, I am a black belt taekwondo champion. This was not my journey, this was my mother’s journey and now she is proud of me.
What’s your favourite cuisine?
It is Bengali cuisine. I love begun diyadimer jhol (brinjal and egg curry).
What is your dream now?
This is just the beginning; I have many steps to climb.
