Apart from Sardar Udham and Koozhangal (Pebbles), Vidya Balan-starrer, Sherni; Chhello Show’ and ‘Laila Aur Saath Geet’ were in the race for India’s official entry to the Oscars, which is decided by The Film Federation of India each year. The 15-member jury was headed by filmmaker Shaji N Karun. More than Sardar Udham not making the cut, the fans were disturbed by the explanation given by one of the jury members – Indraadip Dasgupta. He is an Indian music composer-turned-director, well-known for his work in various Bengali films and will release his big project ‘Bismillah’ on Janmashtmi next year.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
