Hair is an inspiring story
With the song Blue Eyes, hairstylist Ishan Khan got totally ‘hypnotised’ by Pollywood, so much so that this Yamuna Nagar guy decided to make Chandigarh his home
Sheetal
Celebrity hairstylist Ishan Khan was a kid when he told his best friend while watching TV that he would someday create those cool hair styles. Then came a phase when he experimented with different colours and styles on his own hair. With parents’ support, both emotionally and financially, Ishan managed to complete a two-year course in hair and makeup from an institute in Mumbai and landed himself an internship with a television house. What brought him to Punjab was the song Blue Eyes by Honey Singh. With projects pouring in, he decided to settle down in Chandigarh. Just 23, this Yamuna Nagar boy has managed to be one of the most sought after hair stylists in Pollywood.
Your USP?
It would be that I am serious about my work. It may sound easy but like any other profession we too brainstorm to bring uniqueness in our work.
Challenging moment…
I worked in the movie Mr & Mrs 420. To pass off Jassi Gill as a girl was challenging but it came out well.
Celeb you enjoy working with…
I love what I do. I have no qualms as long as I am doing something new and adding value to the project.
Which celeb can rock any looks?
Wamiqa Gabbi. She is willing to experiment with her looks for the characters she plays. Recently she did a great job in a horror scene with her hair undone and dark lenses.
Who is experimental enough in real life when it comes to hair?
I think Shahnaz Gill. For, she keeps on changing her looks.
A tip on hair care?
After a regular head bath and conditioner, use a heat protection spray. It helps avoiding breakage.
A mistake one should avoid in the initial days of their career.
Keep struggling. I know many guys who were disappointed after a couple of rejections. Don’t lose hope and keep upgrading yourself. Sometimes, we have to unlearn a lot of things to learn something new. Be open about it.
Oiling won’t help
It’s a misconception that oiling adds to the lustre of your hair. Instead, pay attention to your diet. Eating healthy vitamin-E rich food, fruits and nuts ensure better results than oiling.
What to do on a bad hair day?
If short hair, it’s best to apply OSiS dust powder or to remove excess oil that shows on the roots. For long hair, high pony with centre partition goes a long way. Just make sure you apply a hair spray.
What’s your preference for styling, long or short hair?
Creating a bald look or short hair look is easier.
Best moments on the sets…
