Crime thrillers have become the favourite of binge-watchers lately and when there is a second season on the way, fans wait with bated breath. Hostages, an adaptation of an Israeli show by the same name, which was released last year, gave an edge-of-the-seat experience to the viewers and now, the second instalment is set to premiere on Hotstar on September 9!

Divya Dutta

As the tagline of the show goes, khel ab badal chuka hai, the tables have actually turned, where the hunter (Ronit Roy) becomes the hunted. Dalip Tahil, Surya Sharma, Aashim Gulati, Anangsha Biswas and Mohan Kapur reprises their role, whereas viewers will get to see Dino Morea in never-seen-before avatar. Shibani Dandekar will be seen as his accomplice, while Divya Dutta will play the negotiator in the hostage situation. Shweta Basu Prasad will be seen an intelligence officer.

Dino Morea

Racy affair

Says Ronit Roy, “The second instalment will pick up from where the first season ended. The pace will surely be more, as the stakes get higher. As for the characters, although the dynamics remains the same, circumstances have changed and that will bring some really interesting scenes to the foreground.”

About his role, Dino Morea says, “I never thought I would play an ice-cold assassin. In fact, the character is so grey that I would rather call it black! Killing someone is a profession for this guy and like a professional, he shows no remorse. Also, he likes what he does.”

Although Tisca Chopra will be missed, but to fill in her shoes, series director Sudhir Mishra, and director and DOP, Sachin Mamta Krishn, have added three powerful women characters to the mix. Says Divya Dutta, “When I watched the first season, I was like why I was not a part of this show. The same was discussed when Sudhir was chatting with me one day. So, here I am as a negotiator; a petite woman in a sticky situation with men in uniform all around her. I believe women can be great negotiators in day-to-day life as well and, of course, aspects of that have been put into this character.”

Honest take

Shweta, who plays Shikha, says, “With every scene, a thread is ripped to unveil greater mystery. It was interesting to play an adamant, yet diligent, officer, who is not taken very seriously.”

As for Shibani, “I liked the role personally because even though it is on the negative side, my character is grappling with her own demons.”
