What made you take up this role?

I was impressed with the character of Shakti Seshadri. It is well written. This role is indeed a dream come true for me. I truly feel blessed.

What is Queen all about?

Queen is based on the book by the same name written by Anita Sivakumaran. It is a powerful account of an ordinary girl, Shakti Sheshadri, who stood up to life’s curveballs with courage and strength to emerge as the ‘Iron lady’ of Indian politics.

Have you gone through the book to prepare for the role?

I have not read the book. I just went by the notes that my director Gautham Menon gave me. I consider myself as a director’s actor and I minutely followed whatever he wanted me to do.

Was it difficult playing Sheshadri?

Playing the role of a politician was not easy, it was definitely challenging. When I was playing the part when Shakti was at the pinnacle of power, it was tricky because there were so many emotions that I had to portray at the same time. It did overwhelm me.

Kangana Ranaut is reportedly playing the lead in an upcoming movie based on a similar storyline. Your take?

It is really big news that the subject has been picked up. I think Kangana is a gutsy, wonderful and self-made woman. I am sure Kangana will do a great job!
