The Lord of the Rings original series gets a release date
The highly anticipated The Lord of the Rings series finally has a release date. The show will premiere on Amazon Prime on September 2, 2022. While its more than one year for the release, the filming of season one was completed on Monday (August 2) in New Zealand. The new epic drama brings to the screens, for the very first time, J.R.R. Tolkien’s fabled Second Age of Middle-Earth’s history. Beginning in a time of relative peace, thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new.
Headlining this ensemble cast are Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova and Charles Edwards, to name a few. The series is led by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay. Announcing the series’ premiere, Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios said, “The journey begins September 2, 2022 with the premiere of our original The Lord of the Rings series on Prime Video. I can’t express just how excited we all are to take our global audience on a new and epic journey.”
