‘Keep working with conviction’
- Why did you choose this role in Molkki?
The storyline of Molkki is very interesting. It’s about the age-old ritual in Rajasthan and Haryana where a young girl is being married to an old, wealthy, man. The story is based on real-life incidents and that’s what attracted me to take up this show. It also gives an important social message.
- How did you prepare for the character?
I worked on look and the body language of the character, and then the Haryanvi dialect. I am still learning.
- You are reuniting with Ekta Kapoor; how has your association with her been?
She is the master of her craft. She has been producing so many successful shows. I know when it comes to Ekta Kapoor, she will take care of all the aspects of the show very well. It’s a pleasure working with her.
- A career of close to 26 years in the industry, what has been your biggest take?
I would say the lage raho formula; no matter what but you need to work harder. This is a beautiful place, but it has lot of insecurities as well. Failure should not affect you and it should not depress you. Even after you put a lot of hard work, success is not guaranteed. But you need to keep working with conviction.
- You have portrayed so many roles on screen. Which is your favourite?
I have to take at least three-four names. One is Ravi Chopra’s Virasaat, where I played this powerful character named Kunal Kharbanda. Then there is Mihir Virani of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, which was loved by the audience. One more memorable character, which came to my career quite early, was Sahil Chachu from Dekh Bhai Dekh. I was quite young and tasted success, as people used to recognise me on the roads.
- How has been the lockdown phase for you?
It was fantastic for me. I watched a lot of web series, which I didn’t have the time for earlier. I also did a lot of work-out at home. Then I helped my wife with household chores. I have cleaned all the utensils at home for four months, which reminded me of the time when I was in Bigg Boss 5!
- What do you spend your free time?
I love to read books and also browse a lot of YouTube, where I can catch up on short films.
- What is your plan for Diwali?
We will have fun at home.
