“There was no specific agenda to go bald. It just I did it because I wanted to. It is something I wanted for me; it feels different and liberating.”

This lockdown has taught each one of us a common art – the ability to fend for ourselves. Reliability on house helps to hair dressers to delivery guys seems like a thing of the past! And, one trend that the celebs have set for us it that of DIY (do it yourself) haircuts.

Sport a look

Portuguese professional footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo’s charm is unbeatable even when he is quarantined with his wife and kids. Sporting a pony right at the centre of the head, he shed his hair from the sides and back in front of the camera. Waving at his fans, he was pretty confident about what he was doing. His video post’s caption read, “Stay home and keep stylish #stayhomestaysafe.” While Ronaldo managed to keep some hair over his head, popular British footballer, David Beckham got rid of them all and shared a monochrome picture of the same. He wrote, “Just had to be done #stayhome #staysafe #staystrong GOODNIGHT.”

“Meanwhile in quarantine…” read Anushkha Sharma’s video post on Instagram after she gave a haircut to his cricketer-husband Virat Kohli. Virat even managed to drop a quick look of ‘before and after’ picture at the end of it.

For a purpose

Yet another cricketer, David Warner also shaved his head, but for a cause. He wrote, “Been nominated to shave my head in support of those working on the frontline #Covid-19 here is a time lapse. I think my debut was the last time I recall I’ve done this. Like it or not?” Warner further nominated fellow cricketers, including Virat Kohli. Guess what, Virat wasn’t ready to go rogue!

Daring artistes

Hollywood has been known for making bold choices. From Bruce Willis giving his daughter, Tallulah Willisa, a ‘buzz cut’ to Pink’s admission to haircuts to Gwen Stefani shaving Blake Shelton’s head into a mullet like Tiger King – that too live on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon – we have seen it all!

In India, Badshah first dropped a hint with a 10-year-old picture of his, while asking his followers, “How is this look?” But it was rather shocking to see him suddenly making TikTok videos in a bald look and on top of it talking about “Kaale Ghane Lambe Baal” in the caption.

Ritviz, known for his classical yet new music, was donning grey hair till recently, but he has now gone bald! His action blends perfectly with not only his new release ‘Thandi Hawa’, which not only plays in the background, but also its lyrics ‘Sambhalo Humko’!

Coming up

Chandigarh-based hairstylist Aaryan Sharma recommends, “Either go for a cadet cut – six mm all over your head or check your tolerance by not letting your hair growth bother you at all. I believe after the lockdown will be over, we are going to see two extremes – Mithun era of hairstyle again or cadet haircuts! There is no in between.” Himself sporting a thick beard before lockdown, Aaryan shaved it and even made a video to guide his clients. Are you ready to learn?
