Netflix’s 1930s Hollywood drama Mank led Oscar nominations on Monday with 10 nods, including best picture. Other best picture nods went to dementia drama The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Korean-language drama Minari, Nomadland, #MeToo revenge tale Promising Young Woman, Sound of Metal and The Trial of the Chicago 7.”

The Oscars, the highest honours in the movie industry, will be handed out at a ceremony on April 25. This year several films were in the Oscar race from India. Tamil movie Soorarai Pottru was also running for multiple categories. Besides feature films, short films were in the Oscar race as well. These included Natkhat, starring Vidya Balan, and director Karishma Dev Dube’s Bittu. However, all these films are now out of the race. Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra’s The White Tiger has got nominated under Adapted Screenplay category. The film has been written and directed by Ramin Bahrani. — Agencies
