‘My job is my passion’
What do you have to say about the working pattern of the TV industry?
Television trains an actor to give the best performance in minimum time and work for exhausting hours without losing the freshness. The challenge is to give minimum 21 minutes footage every day to the channel. Also, most importantly, TV gives instant feedback as the shoot and telecast happen almost simultaneously.
TV provides regular work, which also means a regular source of income. What is your take?
I totally agree. It not only provides a regular income but regular popularity too.
From Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai to Choti Sarrdaarni, there was a huge gap. How did you cope?
There was a gap but I had been exploring other mediums in between. I did Sarkar 3, directed by RGV, did web series Untouchables, directed by Vikram Bhatt. I did events as well. So, overall it was an interesting run in-between.
Do you think an actor should have an alternate profession?
Absolutely, acting is a seasonal job and it needs to be fuelled financially from an alternate source of income.
Your personality and height make you look more like a Bollywood actor. Do you think that has been a handicap on TV?
My height is 6-ft 2”. Everyone’s physical attributes give him a persona, that sometimes fit the character and sometimes not, irrespective of the medium.
You prefer maintaining a low profile.
It’s my nature and conditioning and I am happy being like this.
You are a young father. How do you manage to give time to your child?
His name is Krishay and he is eight. I make sure that we spend enough quality time together no matter how busy the schedule is.
Your wife is not from the same profession. Is this a plus or minus?
It’s neutral as I strike a balance between my personal and professional lives and keep them separate.
How do you unwind after a hard day at work?
My passion is my job, so I don’t need to unwind after it as I enjoy each and every bit of my job.
