Time leaps are a norm in daily soaps and there are many cases where a female protagonist gets to play the daughter as well. However, rarely does a male lead get an opportunity like this. Nishant Singh Malkhani has got lucky and will soon play his own son in Rakshabandhan — Rasal Apne Bhai Ki Dhal, which is set to go in for a 15-year time leap. Nishant says, “After my wife (Sanchita Banerjee) is killed, I sacrifice my life while saving my children (Shivraaj and Rasal). I will return post the time leap as Umed’s son, the grown-up Shivraaj.”

The actor had quit his last fiction show, Guddan – Tumse Na Ho Payega, as he didn’t want to play father to a grown-up heroine after the time leap. However, this time around, the tables have turned. “For male actors, this happens only in films. Fortunately, all the characters I have played so far have been a major part of the story; they’ve been strong and typically heroic, which we don’t get to see otherwise on TV.”

While Nishant has featured in several daily soaps, it was the 14th edition of Bigg Boss that got him into limelight.
