If you are a ’90s kid, you are bound to know the popular pop and rock band Aryans. Sill figuring out? Here’s your cue, Aankho mein tera hi chehra, which featured none other than Shahid Kapoor during his initial days of career. One of the founder members of Aryans, KM Nambisan aka Sadu, has made a comeback in December last year. He released his latest track last week.

In contrast to the trend of the recording practices prevalent nowadays, Nambisan’s comeback song Mausam was recorded with live instruments and no programming whatsoever. For the downfall of the music that is still fresh in our minds, Nambisan blames music companies. “Companies stopped investing in that kind of music as Internet took over. Film music captivated the audience with remixes and item songs. ”

About the fame he once had and then shifting to a normal life, how hard was it to handle everything? He says, “It was tough. When you are so big once, it gets difficult to ask someone to organise your show.” Nambisan then decided to take a break. “My education helped me survive in those times but music has always been my first love, I had to come back.” An owner of a pharmaceutical company, he feels music is the best medicine.

He has a strong opinion about the current scenario of music industry. Lyricist, vocalist and composer, Nambisan says, “Music has become the way to earn big . It is no longer an art it used to be. Music is all about melodies and good lyrics, it is ibadat. People are singing remixes and covers for old songs. It is mere plagiarism to put your name on the song that has been sung by someone else.”

Ask him who he likes in the contemporary music scene and the answer is, “I am sorry to say but I only listen to the likes of Jagjit Singh, Talat Mahmood, Mehdi Hassan and Ghulam Ali. I am inspired by Western rock music such as The Beatles and Bryan Adams and symphonies of Mozart.” The singer says the spinal cord of music is simple music and good lyrics. Dressing it with whatsoever flavour is a secondary job .

Here for the promotion of his latest Hor Kinne Suboot Lyawaan, it is his honest attempt at Punjabi music. He says, “ It celebrates the sheer magic of serendipity that brings two people together.”
