The COVID-19 pandemic has made us stay indoors and maintain social distancing. In this lockdown, we talk to handsome Punjabi actor Avinesh Rekhi, who is currently playing Sarabjit Gill in Colors’ show Chhoti Sarrdarni, to find out what is he missing about Punjab!
How are you spending your time?
Right now I am in Mumbai with my kids, wife and mother-in-law. It is a crucial time for all of us. I am busy watching different shows, including my show Chhoti Sardarni.
One thing about Punjabis that you like the most?
I am a Punjabi, born and brought up in Chandigarh. Punjabis are helpful people and you can see that during this tough time. They are distributing food to the needy.
One thing you miss about Punjab?
I miss my mom and dad. They are in Chandigarh.
If you had to recommend one place to visit in Punjab, which place would that be?
First of all everybody should visit the Golden Temple in Amritsar. It is one of the best historical places to visit.
How well can you speak Punjabi? Can you cook Punjabi food?
I speak fluent Punjabi because I am a Punjabi. As for my culinary skill, I can cook daal makhni and butter paneer.
Which is the best place to eat authentic food in Punjab?
You get authentic food all over Punjab. Haveli in Jalandhar is a good place to visit. And in Amritsar, you can get pure Punjabi food in every nook and corner of the city.
What is your favourite Punjabi food?
My favourite Punjabi food is makki di roti and sarson da saag.
How has been the shooting experience in Amritsar?
Since the show is Punjab-based, we shot in two famous gurdwaras, Ram Tirath Mandir and other locations for authenticity. Overall it was fine experience.
What has the industry taught you?
I have learnt to be a good person, work hard and stay focused.
How would you define your growth as an actor?
I do not know if I have really grown as an actor. I do not know how to define growth. I have done a variety of roles. Life is stable now and that is growth, I think.
What ambitions do you have?
I want to do power-packed roles and shows with good storyline.
