Raj Kapoor’s youngest son Rajiv Kapoor succumbs to heart attack at 58

Randhir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor’s younger brother Rajiv Kapoor passed away on Tuesday (February 9). He suffered a massive heart attack and was rushed to Inlaks Hospital in Chembur. However, he was declared dead on arrival. Rajiv, who was affectionately called Chimpu by his loved ones, was only 58. The news of his demise was shared by Neetu Kapoor on Instagram. She posted Rajiv’s picture with the caption “RIP”. Rajiv Kapoor was the youngest among three brothers and two sisters—Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Ritu Nanda and Rima Jain. His eldest sister Ritu Nanda and brother Rishi Kapoor passed away in January and April last year.

Talking about his professional journey, Rajiv made his acting debut with Ek Jaan Hain Hum in 1983. He was later seen in movies such as Aasmaan, Zabardast, Hum To Chale Pardes and Naag Nagin, to name a few. However, it was his film Ram Teri Ganga Maili in 1985, which got him into limelight. The film was directed by his father Raj Kapoor.

Zimmedaaar, which released in 1990, was Rajiv’s last film as an actor. But he was all set to make a comeback as an actor in 2021 with film Toolsidas Junior, helmed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Rajiv was also known as a producer-director. His films as a producer include Henna, Prem Granth and Aa Ab Laut Chalen. And as a director, he helmed Prem Granth starring Rishi Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit, to his credit.
