The film 83 is currently ruling the hearts of Indian cricket fans and cinema-lovers alike. Jatin Sarna, who is essaying the role of middle-order batsman Yashpal Sharma, goes on to call it the project that he is most proud of till date. He says, “It was always my wish to work in films helmed by great directors. Ranveer Singh is the captain in the movie, but for me director Kabir Khan is the captain of our ship, as he envisioned a great subject.”

Ask him the first thought when he signed for the role of Yashpal Sharma and he says, “Frankly speaking, I was getting less money for the role! But once the preparations began, when we met Balwinder Singh Sandhu, who was our coach for the film, I realised how huge this film would be. It has been an unforgettable experience. From getting the mannerisms of Yashpal Sharma right to meeting the real and reel teams, working in this film has given me memories for a lifetime.”

Winter fun

Currently in Punjab, Jatin is filming for an upcoming movie titled Motor Machis Aur Cutter. He says, “The film is a one-night story of a heist gone wrong. So, a lot of shooting happens around midnight and early morning hours. We are shooting in villages in and around Kharar, and our schedule has scenes where we have to be in farms during the cold nights. For someone like me, who has lived for more than a decade in Mumbai now, winter is tough but I am enjoying my time here.”

As for his favourite roles other than the one in 83, he names the ones in Sacred Games and Saat Uchakkey. He adds, “While it was Sacred Games that put me on the map from the audience point of view, Saat Uchakkey was great too. I believe 83 will open the doors for the different kinds of roles that I want to do. In the coming year, I want to shed the gangster and angry guy image! I am not greedy for more screen time in films or web series; all I want to do is to perform well.”
