The pulse of a relationship
Gurnaaz Kaur
When these two doctors met, love blossomed. Dr Shekhar Singal is an orthopedist and is working as an associate profession in the Department of Orthopedics at DMC, Ludhiana. Dr Vidushi Singal is a dermatologist and has her own clinic in Sarabha Nagar. Married for 10 years now, they have two sons and a life full of happy experiences.
As the love story begins
Shekhar: It began 12 years ago when we were both doing our post-graduation in DMC.
Vidushi: It was over a knee-replacement patient.
Getting hitched
Shekhar: I think I was in love when I could speak to her the whole night then work the whole day and still want to speak to her at night again.
Vidushi: For me it was an instant decision. I just knew it’s him.
Changes that followed
Shekhar: It’s taken a roller-coaster style, 360° turn.
Vidushi: Life has changed completely. We automatically start thinking like a couple, we want to share everything.
Living together is
Shekhar: Oh it’s wonderful!
Vidushi: It is wonderful. To have someone there for you all the time is great.
When there is time
Shekhar: We love the time we spend together as a family, with our kids.
Vidushi: He likes to teach me about life.
Fun time means
Shekhar: In the pre-corona era, we loved taking vacations together, going for long drives.
Vidushi: Now we love watching TV, listening to music, going for walks together
If I could change
Shekhar: Her quick anger.
Vidushi: I wish he was more communicative.
Annoying stuff
Shekhar: Like I said her quick temper. She loses her cool very quickly.
Vidushi: When he doesn’t answer my texts after a fight.
Couple goals
Shekhar: To bring out the best in each other by being the best versions of ourselves.
Vidushi: To try and always see things from the other’s point of view. To be slow to judge and quick to forgive.
Wow factor
Shekhar: Everything about her.
Vidushi: His smile.
To make a marriage work
Shekhar: Being yourself and having no pretence with each other.
Vidushi: I think complete acceptance of the other person.
Space talk
Shekhar: Giving space in a relationship is extremely important.
Vidushi: It is important to not crowd each other as all of us need a bit of me time. But it’s also important to grow together as a couple.
Solo vacations
Shekhar: Both sleeping in separate rooms or solo vacations are not for us.
Vidushi: Whenever I’m forced to go alone for conferences and all, I hate it so much. So, it’s a no no for me.
Lockdown special
Lockdown, a time to bond
Shekhar: It’s actually been a great time for us. It’s really brought us closer and given us time to understand each other better.
Vidushi: I agree. It’s been amazing.
A new activity together
Both: We took up yoga. The lockdown gave us a wonderful opportunity to look after our own and each other’s health.
A first since marriage
Shekhar: I normally have a very hectic schedule and this is actually the first time we’ve spent so much quality time together.
Vidushi: I’ve discovered so many things about him that I love. This has been a special first-time for us.
After the pandemic is over
Both: We will go on a holiday.
