Amazon Prime has cancelled Utopia after the first season. News of shelving Utopia comes just after two months from its launch. Inspired by the British series of the same name, the series came from Gone Girl and Sharp Objects writer Gillian Flynn, who also served as the showrunner and executive producer. Earlier this year, Flynn had shared that she started working on the project almost seven years ago.

The eight-episode conspiracy thriller revolved around a group of comic fans who met online and bonded over their obsession for a fictional comic. Together, Becky (Ashleigh LaThrop), Ian (Dan Byrd), Samantha (Jessica Rothe), Wilson Wilson (Desmin Borges) and Grant (Javon Wanna Walton) discover hidden meanings cloaked within the pages of the comic, predicting threats to humanity.
