Zurich-born director Alain Gsponer’s film Heidi is an adaptation of Johanna Spyri’s biggest Swiss bestseller of all time. This movie tells the story of a young orphaned girl, who finds comfort in living the simple farm life with her grandfather in the Swiss Alps, but is forced to move into the home of an upper-class Frankfurt family. Struggling to fit in and longing to return to her grandfather for the simplicity of a life in the mountains she longs for, Heidi ends up befriending the physically disabled daughter of her new home-owners and has a change of heart after giving her a new perspective in life.
