Ludhiana, September 29

Today, 180 more people tested positive for Covid while 12 lost their lives to the virus.

Four deceased were in the age group of 30-40 years, seven were aged from 50 to 60 years and one was 72-year-old. Three patients were also suffering from hypertension, two from diabetes and two were both diabetic and hypertensive. One patient was anaemic and another was a heart patient.

The deceased belonged to Model Gram Extension, Shimlapuri, Janta Nagar, New Shivpuri, New Model Town, Jagraon, Mehdudan village, Samrala Chowk, near bus stand, Dehlon, Basti Jodhewal and Jamalpur.

Those who tested positive include 21 persons who were contact of Covid patients, 46 were referred from OPDs and 64 reported at the flu corners.

A team of the district Health Department visited the market near the Jagraon bridge and motivated people for Covid test. Teams told them that asymptomatic people are also testing positive. In such a scenario, sampling is the only way to differentiate Covid positive persons from negative ones. This way the spread of Covid could be contained.

The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, said various vans had been pressed into service for sampling in collaboration with the Administration. At the initial stage, mass media teams motivate people for sampling and a tour programme is given to the teams deputed with vans. They have covered a number of factories, malls, dhabas, government offices and banks.

Dr Bagga said as the number of cases was increasing day by day, testing of more and more people was the best strategy to contain the spread. It is these hidden cases which are currently the reason behind the rapid spread of Covid-19.

He appealed the people to come forward for testing and shed all their fears and myths regarding testing. Sampling is very important to break the chain of virus.
