12-year-old abducted, impregnated; dies days after delivery

A 12-year-old teenaged girl abducted by a youth in September last year died a few days after delivering a child.

The Sadar police yesterday registered a case on the charges of kidnapping, rape and culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the suspect, identified as Vikram, a resident of Bihar.

The complainant, the girl’s father, said on September 13, 2023, Vikram, who is the brother of his son-in-law, took his daughter along with him to Bihar on the pretext of marrying her. Later, the victim was also impregnated by the suspect. On August 30, when Vikram and his daughter were returning to Ludhiana in a train, the girl faced labor pain. Both of them got off the train at Sonipat and rushed to the Civil Hospital where she delivered a baby boy.

On September 1, his daughter, along with Vikram, came to the house of Vikram’s sister in Ludhiana. On September 4, the victim’s health deteriorated and she died, he said.

The complainant said the suspect had kidnapped, sexually assaulted and impregnated his daughter. After the delivery of the child, she faced serious health issues due to her young age, which caused her death.

The suspect is yet to be arrested by the police.
