250 receive degrees at Christian Medical College convocation

The 126th annual convocation of Christian Medical College, Christian Dental College, College of Nursing, College of Physiotherapy, and Institute of Allied Health Sciences, Ludhiana, was held today with traditional grandeur at the College campus. Prof Vivek Lal, Director of PGIMER, Chandigarh, was the Chief Guest at the event.

Dr William Bhatti, Director of Christian Medical College, welcomed the gathering, while Dr Jeyaraj D Pandian, Principal of Christian Medical College, administered the Hippocratic Oath to the graduates and presented the annual report of the College. The report highlighted the achievements, awards and honours earned by faculty and students over the past year.

In his address, Prof Vivek Lal urged the graduates to be responsive to the health needs of society and fulfill their mandate of providing holistic health care. He also encouraged them to continue learning throughout their lives and stay updated with the latest developments. Prof Lal expressed hope that many graduates would serve in remote areas of India, in line with the mission of Christian Medical College.

A total of 260 graduates from five colleges received their degrees. Students excelling in academic activities were awarded prizes and medals by the Chief Guest.

Notable awards included the Elizabeth Gopal Krishnan Gold Medal Scholarship Merit award for the best outgoing MBBS student in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, which was presented to Diksha Arora and Jacob Jall. Dr Divya Handa received the Vipin Khanna Memorial Gold Medal for best intern and Diksha Arora was honoured as the best outgoing student for overall academic excellence.

The principals of the respective colleges also highlighted faculty achievements. Dr Abi Thomas, Principal of the Dental College, Dr Harjit Kaur, Principal of the College of Nursing, and Dr Sandeep Saini, Principal of the College of Physiotherapy, presented awards to outstanding students. Sia Dutta was named the best graduate from the Christian Dental College, while Dr Tuluw Enoch received the best intern award. Jenny James earned the all-round best student nurse award and Bhavnoor Kaur was recognised as the best clinical nurse student. From the College of Physiotherapy, Abnip Kaur received the Ms Elaine Unkles Award and Parneet Kaur was presented with the S Beant Singh Sahan Memorial Award.

The Association of Medical Alumni also presented various honours: Dr Nikhil Gautam received the Dr VK Satija Memorial Award for best clinical teacher, while Dr Deepshikha Kamra was awarded the batch of 1976 excellence in teaching. Dr Sunil Sadiq, batch of 1984, was honoured with the Alumni Lifetime Service Award.
