140 additional cops deployed to tackle traffic, improve safety
To address increasing traffic congestion across the city, an additional 140 police personnel have been deployed with immediate effect. Announcing this at a press conference at the Police Lines, Ludhiana, on Thursday, MP (Rajya Sabha) Sanjeev Arora stated that with this deployment, the total number of traffic police personnel in the city had risen to approximately 300. He said the reinforcement would significantly enhance traffic regulation and improve road conditions in the city.
Arora highlighted that he had reached out to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and DGP Gaurav Yadav, requesting the deployment of 200 additional traffic personnel in Ludhiana, while 140 personnel had been sanctioned and deployed. He emphasised that this number was sufficient to manage the city’s traffic concerns effectively. The newly assigned traffic police officers arrived in the city today.
The local police have identified 70 accident-prone ‘black spots’ in Ludhiana, along with 67 areas where no traffic personnel were previously stationed. With the new deployment, these locations will now have dedicated traffic management personnel.
He said, additionally, traffic congestion near schools—both private and government—had been a recurring issue, particularly during opening and closing hours. The authorities concerned had identified 10 schools where traffic jams were a major concern. The newly deployed personnel would be stationed outside these institutions to regulate the flow of traffic. Furthermore, the school authorities will collaborate with traffic police to ensure smooth vehicular movement.
