18 teams in total will be vying for top honours in the 9th Guru Gobind Singh Hockey Tournament (sub-junior and junior). It will be organised jointly by the Ludhiana Sportsmen Welfare Association and Punjab Sports Department, with assistance of Jarkhar Hockey Academy at the Olympian Prithipal Singh AstroTurf Stadium of Punjab Agricultural University here from December 1 to 3.
Daronacharya awardee Baldev Singh, patron of the association, along with its president and former national hockey player Amrik Singh Minhas and sports promoter Jagroop Singh Jarkhar, after a meeting of the organising committee said that to strengthen the game at the grassroots level, matches for girls (U-17) group and boys U-16 and U-19 groups would be played on knock-out basis during the tournament.
Kuldeep Chugh, District Sports Officer, Ludhiana, Gurdeep Singh, District Sports Officer, Ferozepur, Hukam Singh Gur Satinder Singh Pargat ,head coach, Jarkhar Hockey Academy, Harmeet Singh, Manpreet Singh Mundian, Paramjit Singh Garewal, Kulwinder Singh Chachradi, and others attended the meeting.
