Two armed robbers barged into a hosiery unit in Sunder Nagar in broad daylight on Tuesday and, after pointing a gun at the owner, demanded Rs 50 lakh, threatening to kill him if he failed to comply. However, their attempt to extract money failed, and they had to return empty-handed.

Harpreet Singh, owner of Shimla Garments and a member of the Hosiery Federation Association, said the two masked men stormed into his factory and one of held him at gunpoint. They demanded Rs 50 lakh and threatened to shoot him if he did not hand over the money.

When Harpreet expressed his inability to arrange such a huge money, the robbers asked for the keys of the locker. He again told them he did not have them. The accused then started ransacking the office in search of cash but could not find anything.

Failing to extort any cash, the dejected robbers had to leave the factory. CCTV cameras captured the two arriving on a black Splendor motorcycle.

After receiving Harpreet’s complaint, the Ludhiana police launched an investigation. CCTV footage was being verified.

Interestingly, factory workers were present at the time of the incident, but none intervened or attempted to chase the robbers.

Police said it was an unsuccessful attempt and efforts were underway to identify and arrest the suspects.
