Police initiated action against two employees of HDFC Bank’s Gill branch, following a complaint that they fraudulently withdrew a city resident’s fixed deposit (FD) amounting to Rs 9.5 lakh. The police registered a case after verifying the victim’s claim that her funds were siphoned off without her knowledge or authorisation. The accused were identified as Prabhjit Singh, the branch manager, and employee Sannit Dhir.
Complainant Anita Rani, a resident of Ishar Nagar, stated that she had created two FDs at the branch: one valued at Rs 6.5 lakh, and another for Rs 3 lakh. The fraud came to light earlier this year when Rani tried to withdraw the money but realised it had been withdrawn. The bank failed to provide her with a satisfactory explanation in the matter. SHO of the Sadar police station confirmed that an FIR was registered after the investigation team found sufficient evidence to support the allegations.
