A major accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday near Neemwala Dhaba on National Highway 1 claimed two lives and leaving one person seriously injured.

A tipper, loaded with gravel, was parked on the highway, when it was hit from the rear by a truck carrying grains, heading from UP to Ludhiana. The tipper driver, identified as Vipin Kumar from Himachal, was killed on the spot. The truck driver was taken to the Civil Hospital, where he also succumbed to his injuries. His companion is currently undergoing treatment.

Police officials said the accident occurred when the tipper driver was checking the vehicle and the truck driver failed to notice the parked tipper. The police got the injured admitted to the Civil Hospital.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
