The police seized 20 kg of cow meat during a raid at a shop in the fish market of the Sherpur area here. The Moti Nagar police have arrested Raja Khan, the owner of a shop, in this regard.

The complainant, Mukesh Kumar, said he was working for the welfare of abandoned cows and was the chairman of the Gau Raksha Dal, Punjab. He got an information that a few persons were allegedly selling beef in the Sherpur fish market. Along with workers of the organisation, he checked a shop where beef was kept with chicken.

It was learnt that five persons, Raja Khan, Lalu, Lucky Khan, Adnan Quraishi and Danish Khan, were selling the beef illegally.

Raja was nabbed by the police and 20 kg of beef was seized from his shop. Other suspects were absconding and the police were searching for them. A case has been registered under Sections 298 and 325 of the BNS and Sections 3 and 8 of the the Punjab Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act, 1955.
