A 22-year-old youth from Lucknow, Sourav, who was residing in the Gahaur area of Mullanpur Dakha, here, drowned in a canal on Wednesday.

According to information, Sourav had gone to the canal with his two friends, who initially entered the water to cool off due to the hot weather. Sourav also jumped into the canal but struggled in the strong water currents.

Despite his friends’ efforts to rescue him, the victim drowned in the water body.

Police officials of the Dakha police station, who were called to the scene, retrieved the youth’s body from water.
