24 held in spl drive against illicit liquor
Punjab Excise Department’s Ludhiana (West) range launched a special enforcement drive on April 1 in the jurisdiction of Ludhiana police commissionerate and Ludhiana (Rural) police district to crack down on illegal liquor trade.
As part of this drive, the department, along with the police, has carried out various operations in this period. Till date, a total of 196 raids were conducted across various locations in the range, with mobile and static nakas set up to monitor and intercept illicit activities of smugglers and bootleggers. These efforts have led to the registration of 25 FIRs and the arrest of 24 individuals involved in excise related violations.
Additionally, the department confiscated four vehicles. The enforcement actions have resulted in the recovery of 523 bottles of Punjab Medium Liquor (PML), 465 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), including liquor meant for sale in Chandigarh and Haryana, 1.30 lakh L of lahan and two working stills.
