Government primary schools in the district, which were until now struggling to function due to a lack of a sufficient number of teachers, breathed a sigh of relief as approximately 300 newly recruited teachers are set to join these schools in the district.

Confirming this, District Education Officer (Elementary) Ravinder Kaur said appointment letters had been given to the teachers, and they were all set to join the respective schools. “Till now we had a vacancy of about 500 teachers at government primary schools, but with the joining of these 300 teachers, that would go down to just 200. It is certainly a relief, and with this we will be able to further strengthen our enrolment mission,” said the DEO.

It may be mentioned here that many teachers had condemned the state government for focusing on enrolment in the absence of proper infrastructure and adequate staff, but the DEO maintained that these were excuses, as the government was providing grants for everything—classes, computers, projectors and washrooms etc —and had also hired more teachers now.

The Education Department in Ludhiana recently launched a district-level Enrolment Campaign Awareness Van. The van was flagged off by MLA Rajinderpal Kaur Chhina from Government Primary Smart School, Sarabha Nagar, Block-2, Ludhiana.
