34 arrested by city police during search operation

The Ludhiana Police Commissionerate carried out Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in various city areas and drug spots. The police arrested 34 drug peddlers during the operation and made huge recovery of drugs.

The recovered drugs include 804 gm of heroin, 1,850 intoxicating tablets, 50 injections, 21 gm of intoxicating powder, 700 gm of charas. They also seized a Ertiga vehicle during the drive.

Commissioner of Police (CP), Ludhiana, Kuldeep Singh Chahal himself led the drive in which SHOs of all police stations, in-charges of various cells, DSPs, ADCPs and DCP took part.

Chahal said on the call of the state government’s Yudh Nashya Virudh, the CASO was conducted at drug hotspots, houses of drug smugglers and other suspected places. Police teams in groups made huge efforts which led to the arrest of 34 smugglers and huge recovery of drugs was also made from them.

“We have zero tolerance against drug smuggling activities. I give clear warning to drug smugglers to shun this profession and become the main part of society, otherwise, the police are not going to spare anyone. Strict instructions have also been given to heads of all police stations and cells to intensify drive against drugs and eradicate the menace from the ground completely,” he added.

The CP asserted that the surprise checking would continue in coming days and the drug network, if any, running in the city would be eliminated.

Meanwhile, Chahal said the police also started a campaign to demolish illegal properties of smugglers. In the past few days, three such properties were bulldozed by the police and several are in the pipeline.

16 held in Khanna, Samrala and Payal

The cordon and search operation was also conducted at five crime/drug hotspot locations in Khanna, Samrala and Payal sub-divisions of the district.

The force was led by six DSPs, seven SHOs, 165 personnel in 13 teams headed by their in-charges under the guidence of DIG Nilambari Vijay Jagdale and Khanna SSP Jyoti Yadav Bains.

The teams were given specific targets in terms of POs, listed drug smugglers and wanted criminals. Apps such as PAIS and VAHAN were used to check suspected persons and vehicles.

During the operation, 66 suspects and 35 vehicles were checked and 16 were arrested following the registration of six cases. Further, 20 gm of heroin, 150 gm of opium, seven stolen mobile phones, one silver paper role and 200 lomotil tablets were seized.

The SSP said the exercise was being done by the Police Department to ensure the masses that the police were always there for their safety and protection and the search operations would put pressure on miscreants and curb the crime.

The suspects were identified as Gurjant Singh, Abishek, Vishal Kumar, Abishek Kumar, all residents of Khanna, Bhupinder Singh of Ludhiana, Sehjad Khan, alias Lucky, of Krishna Nagar, Gobindgarh, Harvinder Singh, alias Lucky, of Doraha, and Amandeep Singh, alias Metro, of Rampur, Jaskaran Singh of Doraha and Jaswinder Singh, alias Bunty, from Rampur, Navjot Singh of Shahpur, near Payal, Akshay Kumar, Arjun Kumar, both residents of Himmatpura, Manpreet Singh, alias Mani, of Balibeg Colony, Machhiwara, and Dimple Mehra and Vishu of Billanwali Chapri in Khanna.

Four nabbed from rural areas

Under the search operations, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ludhiana rural, Dr Ankur Gupta led a drive against smugglers and conducted a checking at various places. Four persons were arrested. The operation was conducted in drug-affected villages/mohallas.
