Dr Pawan Dhingra (56), a renowned orthopaedic surgeon running his own practice at Dev Hospital, began his cycling journey in May 2017 through Audax India Randonneurs in association with the Audax Club Parisian (Paris).
He started doing time-bound endurance cycling events BRM’s (brevets) 200 km (13.5 hrs), 300km (20hrs), 400km (27 hrs), 600km (40hrs), 1,000km (75 hrs),1,200 km (90hrs) and 1,400 km (108 hrs).The rider who completes a series of four rides of 200,300,400 and 600 km in a year gets the title of ‘super randonneur’.
Recently, he achieved 50 super randonneur titles in just eight years and six months at this age. He has done 214 events till date and has cycled around one lakh km all over India and abroad. This is the highest in the world by any individual. He has already had his name enrolled in the Asia Book of Records (twice), India Book of Records ( four times) and has again applied for the same in these books besides the Guiness World Records .
“I have also done around 12 ultra events of more than 1,000 km. They include Srinagar to Kanyakumari 3,700km (13 days), Delhi to Kolkata (1,465 km), Delhi to Mumbai (1,460km), Paris (1,225km), London (1,000km) and Delhi to Kathmandu (1,000km),” he said.
He was honoured for this record in Ludhiana by Bhagwan Mahavir Sewa Sansthan.
Besides, Dr Dhingra has performed around 3,500 deformity correction surgeries, in polio PPRP, cerebral palsy, club feet, leg and elbow deformities cases in association with the Bhagwan Mahavir Sewa Sansthan and the Bharat Vikas Parishad, pro bono for disabled children.
