682 file papers for MC elections
A total of 682 candidates have filed nominations for the elections to Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana. On the last day today, 656 nominations were filed.
Meanwhile, 68 candidates for the Municipal Council, Maachiwara, 74 for Municipal Council, Sahnewal, 55 for Municipal Council, Dakha, 43 for Malaud nagar panchayat, five for nagar council, Khanna (ward 2), and three for nagar council, Samrala (ward 12), have filed their papers.
MLA Gurpreet Gogi’s wife Dr Sukhchain Kaur went to file her nominations on a scooter, which was driven by Gogi.
“This is my lucky scooter and on Thursday, we both went on it to file the papers of my wife. People have seen our work and I am confident AAP will form the House,” he said.
Congress candidate Dipika Bhalla said AAP had failed to live upto expectations of the people and the next Mayor will be from the Congress.
The nominations would be scrutinised on December 13 while the date for withdrawal of the nominations would be December 14. Electronic voting machines (EVMs) would be used for the voting on December 21 and polled votes will be counted on the same day at the polling station itself, after the completion of polling of votes.
Expenditure limits fixed
District Election Officer Jitendra Jorwal on Thursday stated that the State Election Commission had fixed expenditure limits for a candidate contesting the municipal elections. A sum of Rs 4 lakh has been fixed for a candidate contesting the corporation elections and Rs 3.6 lakh for the municipal council class 1, Rs 2.30 lakh for municipal council class 2 and Rs 2 lakh for municipal council class 3. The expenditure limit has also been notified for a candidate contesting for the nagar panchayat, which is Rs 1.40 lakh.
Two observers appointed for dist
To ensure peaceful, fair, and transparent elections for the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation as well as various municipal councils and one nagar panchayat, the State Election Commission has appointed two observers for Ludhiana district.
Ramvir, secretary of the Punjab State Agricultural Marketing Board, and Puneet Goyal, Director of Food, Civil Supplies, are the designated observers. They assumed their charge on Thursday.
