The Ludhiana police claimed to have busted a gang of robbers and arrested seven of its members.

They have been identified as Kamaljit Singh, alias MP, of Preet Nagar, Gursewak Singh, alias Gora, of Jujhar Nagar, Sourav Bedi of the Barota road area, Shivam of Preet Nagar, Rakesh Kumar of Shimlapuri, Sahil of Azad Nagar and Maharishi, alias notice. The police recovered 68 mobile phones, one toy pistol, two motorcycles, two sharp weapons and five baseball bats from the suspects.

ADCP Dev Singh in a statement issued stated that on September 15, Manpreet Singh lodged a police complaint that on the intervening night of September 13 and 14, when he was sleeping on a bench outside a gurdwara near the Gill canal, about 15 youths, who were carrying sharp weapons, including swords and baseball bats, cornered him. They snatched his mobile phone and wallet. The suspects also thrashed him. The injured victim was rushed to a hospital. Later, he had lodged a police complaint in this regard.

The ADCP said when the police started a probe, the suspects were identified. After getting a tip-off about their whereabouts, raids were conducted and seven suspects were nabbed. The police also recovered 68 mobile phones which the miscreants had looted from city residents in the recent past.

The police said remaining members of the gang would also be identified and arrested soon.
