The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour in the region. Government officials hoisted the national flag at their respective offices, followed by brief functions and distribution of sweets.

Malerkotla DC Viraj S Tidkey, Raikot SDM Upinderjit Kaur Brar, Payal SDM Pardeep Bains, Executive Magistrate Ahmedgarh Sukhwinder Singh and Ahmedgarh MC chief Vikas Krishan Sharma led the government officials during the celebrations.

AAP legislator Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra was the chief guest at the function held at Dyanand Adarsh Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School. Police personnel, led by Malerkotla SSP Gagan Ajit Singh, Ludhiana (rural) SSP Ankur Gupta and Khanna SSP Jyoti Yadav, paid tributes to the national flag.
