Ahead of the upcoming Diwali festival, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Traffic, Jatin Bansal, on Thursday visited city’s major wholesale cracker markets at Dana Mandi near the Jalandhar bypass to assess and finalise traffic management strategies. With the area expected to see a massive surge in visitors looking to purchase firecrackers, the review focused on ensuring smooth traffic flow and adequate public safety.

The ACP, along with his team, thoroughly inspected the existing traffic arrangements, paying close attention to parking zones, entry and exit points for vehicles, and pedestrian movement corridors. The primary concern is mitigating congestion caused by the large influx of residents, which often leads to significant bottlenecks in the vicinity of these markets.

During his visit, Bansal held a detailed meeting with association representatives and shopkeepers. He issued instructions emphasising the need for cooperation from the traders. Key directives included strict adherence to designated loading/unloading times, not encroaching on the main road for display or storage and encouraging customers to utilise allocated parking areas.

“Our goal is to ensure that residents can visit markets safely and with minimal traffic disruption,” he said.

“Shopkeepers’ cooperation is vital. We have briefed them on specific arrangements, including deploying of additional traffic personnel and creating temporary barriers to manage queues and parking effectively,” he added.
