The Department of Agricultural Journalism, Languages and Culture (AJLC), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), marked a new beginning with the launch of its first digital newsletter “PAU Mosaic.” The newsletter was formally released by PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, who remarked that the initiative was a commendable creative venture by the students of Masters in Journalism and Mass Communication (MJMC). The launch ceremony was also graced by Dr Nirmal Jaura, Director Students’ Welfare; Dr MIS Gill, Dean Postgraduate Studies; and Dr Vishal Bector, Associate Director Institutional Relations, who appreciated the students for this innovative step.
Elaborating the theme and purpose behind the PAU Mosaic, editors Dr Sheetal Thapar, Professor and Head, AJLC; and Dr Hina Goyal, English Faculty, AJLC, shared that the newsletter would also serve as a lab journal – a wholesome hands-on writing, editing, designing and photography assignment, designed to empower the students and make them future-ready in the competitive world of journalism and mass media.
“The newsletter symbolises diversity and unity. Just like a mosaic, where every piece adds to the beauty of the whole. PAU Mosaic brings together the voices, talents and artistic expressions of the student community,” opined Dr Sheetal Thapar. Adding more bite, Dr Hina Goyal divulged that the inaugural issue featured a variety of content, including an exclusive conversation with the VC, citing his holistic vision for advancement in academics, research, innovation and extension; glimpses of major university events, artistic and photographic expressions, literary oeuvres and engaging activities such as a caption writing contest. The newsletter will be published every month to showcase the students’ journalistic flair and creative spirit, she added.
Applauding the initiative, VC Gosal congratulated the department and the budding journalists for their effort. He emphasised that writing with passion would not only refine their skills but also help them achieve greater heights in their professional journey. He particularly lauded the PAU Mosaic student team: Simranjeet Singh, Simarleen Kaur, Muskaan Narula, Vineet Kapoor, Gagan Sharma and Prabhsimranpal Singh, wishing more power to their pen.
