Agricultural varsity geneticist awarded fellowship

Dr Satinder Kaur, principal molecular geneticist at the School of Agricultural Biotechnology (SAB), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, was awarded the prestigious honorary fellowship by the Punjab Academy of Sciences.

The award was conferred during the 28th Punjab Science Congress, held from February 7-9, at Khalsa College, Amritsar.

Distinguished Scientists from India and abroad, who have made rich contributions to the development of research in scientific fields, are awarded this honorary fellowship every year.

Dr Kaur was recognised for her outstanding research contributions and achievements in the field of agricultural sciences by improving the genetic diversity of wheat, utilising its wild relatives.

Expressing pride in Dr Kaur’s achievement, Dr Yogesh Vikal, Director of SAB, PAU, highlighted that the university’s wheat-wide hybridisation programme had played a crucial role in improving the crop’s resilience.

Dr AS Dhatt, Director of Research, PAU, congratulated Dr Kaur, acknowledging the PAU’s legacy of attaining excellence in agricultural research. PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr SS Gosal also lauded Dr Kaur’s success, reaffirming the university’s commitment to cutting-edge research for sustainable agriculture.
