Ahmedgarh civic body 1st in state to support ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ drive

The Ahmedgarh Municipal Council has become the first urban local body in Punjab to formally support the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign, an anti-drug initiative launched by the Aam Aadmi Party government.

The decision was taken during a regular council meeting held under the supervision of Amargarh MLA Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra and Municipal Council president Vikas Krishan Sharma. The campaign aims to combat drug abuse through awareness, rehabilitation, and community participation.

Team of experts to organise workshops 
  • Amargarh MLA Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra directed Executive Officer Vikas Uppal to collaborate with social, religious, and educational institutions to spread awareness about the causes and consequences of drug abuse.
  • Municipal Council president Vikas Krishan Sharma claimed that a team of experts has been constituted to make the awareness campaign more effective. “We have coordinated with educational institutions to conduct awareness workshops and seminars at their convenience,” he said.

MLA Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra, who is also associate member of the body, appreciated that the council had emerged pioneer in the state by responding positively to an appeal made by Tarunpreet Singh Sond, a member of the Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

“While I take privilege to greet the Ahmedgarh Municipal Council to emerge as the first urban local body to declare formal support to the ensuing fight against the menace of drug abuse. I urge all councilors to use their influence to bring more organisations on board to rid Punjab of this menace,” said Gajjanmajra.

He further directed Executive Officer Vikas Uppal to collaborate with social, religious, and educational institutions to spread awareness about the causes and consequences of drug abuse.

Efforts will also be made to rehabilitate drug addicts who choose to join mainstream by undergoing de-addiction treatment at government run clinics and centers, said Gajjanmajra.
