Armed assailants open fire at 3 friends in Samrala; 1 dead
Attack in Manki village reportedly linked to old enmity; police launch hunt for the assailants
Armed men on motorcycles opened fire at three friends in Manki village, Samrala, on Monday night, leaving two injured, one of whom later died during treatment in Chandigarh.
According to Khanna SP (D) Pawanjit, the incident occurred around 9 pm when Gurvinder Singh Ginda (21), Dharampal Singh Dharmu, and Lovepreet Singh were standing on a bridge in Manki village.
Four armed miscreants on two motorcycles approached them and opened fire. Gurvinder suffered a bullet wound to his stomach, Dharampal was hit below the stomach, while Lovepreet escaped unharmed. The attackers fled the scene immediately.
Both injured youths were rushed to Samrala Civil Hospital and later referred to a hospital in Chandigarh. Gurvinder succumbed to his injuries, while Dharampal’s life was saved by doctors.
SP Pawanjit said the attack stemmed from an old enmity. “All four assailants were sent by Sandeep, a resident of Dyalke village, who had a personal grudge against Gurvinder. The attackers explicitly mentioned Sandeep’s name and told Gurvinder he had to face the consequences,” he said.
A murder case has been registered against five individuals, and police raids are underway to apprehend the accused. All the assailants hail from a village in Samrala and have criminal backgrounds, the SP added.
